Although she only started with us in January, Candice White has already made a big impact here at Desert De Oro (DDO). As a Food Service Champion, she’s committed to helping make the 43rd & Olive Taco Bell the best it can possibly be. Each work day, Candice leads the drive-thru, makes delicious food and greets her regulars with a smile.
“I love my customers. I really do. I know people say that, and I’m not full of it — I really, really do,” she shares.
Why DDO Is Different
Candice’s job with DDO isn’t the first time she’s worked for Taco Bell. She was previously employed by the brand when she lived in a different state, and upon moving, decided to come back. “[Taco Bell’s] been great to me,” she shares, “My friends don’t have the same kind of support from their companies.”
Candice also credits her coworkers and her leaders with the positive environment she gets to return to every shift.
Looking Forward To The Future
Candice loves her job, but it’s not her only major commitment. When she was first hired, a flyer on the wall at work caught Candice’s eye. What it said got her really excited: after six months of employment, DDO pays for Taco Bell team members to get their GED.
It was a moment that felt meant to be — and that’s because Candice had been dreaming of earning her GED for a very long time. She became a mom at a young age, and as a result, she wasn’t able to finish high school. So as soon as Candice reached her six month mark at DDO, she applied to the GED program — and thankfully, she was accepted!
“I’m very committed to my job, so when I found out I could do both[school and work] in one place, I was ecstatic.”
– Candice White
Candice shares that her GED curriculum offers four different concentrations, and she’s chosen to focus on science. “I’m being challenged right now. I’m learning about the human anatomy!” she says.
Transferable Skills
After she completes her GED, Candice has dreams of becoming a medical case manager, where she’ll help coordinate care for patients, families and caregivers. She attributes the social aspect of her current job with teaching her how to interact with all sorts of different people — something a career in her future field will require.
“Every part of my job is shaping my future,” she shares.
Way to go, Candice! If you want to gain valuable life skills while furthering your goals, consider joining our team.
